Planning…preparation…pretending

We then spent the next few months (Oct ’14 – Feb ’15) building up intel for our QT2CT trip. Amand was back in NZ, while Steve was in Germany, so we’d catch up on Skype every 2-3 weeks to discuss what progress we’d made, and to keep the momentum going.

If ever there’s a time for a trip like this to fizzle out, it’s in these early stages. Having to compile a route outline, budget, time line, border crossings info, motorbike and gear research is a crucial yet tedious task. Fortunately, Amand seems to thrive on these duties and we have him to thank for putting in the hard graft, and the pretty colours!

It was also during this time that Russ, Steve’s younger brother, became part of the picture. Steve mentioned to him that we were planning this adventure, and Russ, being the crazed adventure seeking man that he is, wanted in. Once Steve was back in NZ we all gathered in Dunedin, sat in Steve’s spa, drank whisky and committed to this adventure.

Maybe we were all pretending a little bit too. We might have bitten off more than we could chew, but we want to go big and find the massive adventure we were after.
