So the time for setting off on our first serious multi-week adventure gets closer and closer.
It’s now under 5 months until we plan to meet in Austria, get our bikes sorted and packed and get on the road.
Some things have happened that have altered the trip a little in terms of the make up of the team. Russ has had to pull out due to lack of funds, we’re gutted for him as his contribution so far has been awesome. The problem is funds are a rather important part of being able to do this, so he ended up having no choice.
A few weeks later my brother Sam asked how we would feel about having him join us for the whole trip. Steve and I discussed the pros and cons, and agreed that having him on the journey with us would be cool. Sam has a lot of motorcycling experience, he was a mechanic in a previous life and living in Austria he knows plenty about the local scene.
Part of this discussion about having Sam on the trip was around having my older brother there, and that because of us being 6 years apart, he really is the older brother and I’m the younger brother – if you know what I mean. I had a bit of a challenging conversation (for me) with him, saying that older/younger brother thing would have to be left at the gate. Sam accepted this completely, and had some great ideas about ensuring the 3 of us work together as a group and no one feels like the spare wheel. This involves more discussion but we have agreed as a group we must front foot tensions early once we’re on the road as we don’t want stupid issues to get in the way of having a great time!
He even done a couple of small adventures to Romania and to the Adriatic Coast (Greece, Albania, Croatia etc).
So welcome Sam, we are excited to have you on board!
