Day 1-3 – Austria, Hungary, Romania

Day 1 – 27 Aug 2017 – Thal (Austria) to Ozora (Hungary)

Just warming up for the day ahead – the first big day of many
Loaded, shiny and ready
Goodbyes were hard to say, but exciting too
The GAS boys all prepped and ready
Mounting up for the very first time as part of the Black Sea adventure
Ready….steady…and we’re off
Our first break after knocking off about 100km in no time at all down the Autobahn
The Hungarian flag flying
A cool spot in the shade to have a break and an ice-cream
The houses became clearly more dilapidated as we crossed the Iron Curtain
Crossing Lake Balaton on the ferry, saving about 100km of riding – the last space on this ferry was ours!
We were already starting to look like real adventurers…
…but the little break was nice, and it was rather warm.
Beautiful Lake Balaton – and given it was about 35 degrees a swim was a must
The bikes waiting patiently and serving a double purpose as drying racks
Just fitting in with the locals all relaxing by the lake
Here’s one of the “shortest route” roads the GPS guided us to – it got rougher before it got better!
We let the tyre pressure down a bit which made a big difference
We were really on a dirt track…
…but it did kinda look pretty cool!!
The first day done, arriving at a random little “campground” in the middle of Hungary….
….to a random dude wandering round in his y-fronts – he was super friendly though and cooked us a mean feed 🙂
Some friendly local tourists, just hanging out by a mosquito infested pond fishing for carp (or something)
Our friend finally put shorts on and went about cooking us up a feed…
…using meat from his drying room, oh soooooo good!
While we settled in for some pool in a strangely eclectic place…
…while Steve got on with his homework

Day 2 – 28 Aug 2017 – Ozora to Timisoara (Romania)

Bistro for breakfast – beer and goulash 🙂
We were waiting for the ferry to cross the Danube
Now we were fuelled and ready to hit the ferry
Waiting to board the ferry to cross the Danube near Paks, Hungary
A beautiful spot to wait
We took the little bit of time for route planning on the other side of the river
Obviously a number of locals make their living off the Danube
Grit and Sprit all aboard! The second ferry in so many days, this one to save us about 35km to the nearest bridge
Watch out for tractors, bicycles and horse and cart!?!
So many road side stalls with so much good looking produce…
…enough to even be artistic with it!
Not quite as big and powerful but still a motorbike none the less – or is it?? The chainsaw engine runs the bike!
In Timisoara we weren’t sure where to go so we headed straight to the square, the beauty of most European cities is that they have a central square…and it’s usually stunningly beautiful
Grit and Sprit does Unirii Square, Timisoara
We watched the sun go down while trying to find a place to stay online
…and just chilling out a bit too…
…as it was pretty stunning!
We found an apartment to stay in but there was no parking, so the owner (and other building occupants) were happy to let us park in the stairwell. Some fun getting the bikes in and out of here

Day 3 – 29 Aug 2017 – Timisoara to Enduromania, Brebu Neu (Romania)

We stopped for a break at a really beautiful spot by a mountain stream
The GAS team looking sprightly and happy to be in the mountains (and in the shade)
Time for a little nap too!!
We reached Enduromania where we pitched our tents for the night. What a beautiful spot!
First chance to get the TRONOs out as well 🙂
The girls looking sharp after some off-road practice and play
There were some other off-roadsters there too
