Day 16-18 – Russia

Day 16 – 11 Sept 2017 – Kantemirovka to Rostov-on-Don (Russia)

  • Kantemirovka – we had finally made it into Russia after a challenging border crossing
Very clear reminders we were in Russia the moment we stepped outside the hotel in daylight!

  • The juxtaposition of military might and religion were obvious and fascinating!
  • Life goes on in Kantemirovka!

After flying down the motorway for a couple of hours we took a quick break….and found Steve had a split in his front tube….glad we took a break when we did!
After flying (2.5hrs to cover 300km) down the motorway for a bit we arrived in Rostov-on-Don

Day 17 – 12 Sept 2017 – Rest Day in Rostov-on-Don (Russia)

  • We spent the morning wandering around Rostov before getting down to the jobs at hand….
We hit the market, heaving with activity and high quality goods – here Sam tries to find lenses to match his hair colour 🙂
The amount of work going on in the city was significant and impressive, bring on the World Cup!!
  • We acted like tourists….mostly because we were tourists!!
Time for a haircut!
More fantastic juxtaposition, the the shiny buildings, the new buildings and the unrepaired buildings.
The River Don, in the distance is the football stadium for the World Cup.
We considered trading up our wheels but stuck with the trusted ladies in the end 🙂
While Amand wandered the river and enjoyed the sun (after spending hours on the blog)…
…Sam and Steve found MotoDon Rostov and went to work on Steve’s broken fan and also found other bike supplies
A night off to go out for dinner and relax really was nice!!

Day 18 – 13 Sept 2017 – Rostov-on-Don to Nevinnomyssk (Russia)

So we had another long hot day on the flat lands and made in to Nevinnomyssk – what can we tell you about Nevinnomyssk? Ummmmmm, it has a small ferris wheel, and….
….there is a very sharp clean building in the square where the Russian boy racers hang out, and….
….the local topiarist likes reindeer.

Nevinnomyssk – an exciting stop over – we even tried to find a place to go and have a drink, the only place was the local rec centre!!
