Day 34-36 – Turkey, Greece Day 34 – 29 Sept 2017 – Istanbul to Komotini (Greece) Before leaving Istanbul we headed to the Grand Bazaar in search of a shave. Beyond the sparkling fluorescent lights of the main thoroughfares was a barbers shop… …ideal! We settled in and set up a TRONO to really relax… …and beard by beard we tidied up before the next period of being detached from the world. Amand was the only one still carrying the beard that started in Austria with the start of the trip… …but it was time for a change… …and all of a sudden a younger group of men emerged from the Bazaar. We then fuelled up for the next riding session, heading for the other side of the Greek border and late in the evening we found ourselves in Komotini. Day 35 – 30 Sept 2017 – Komotini to Thessaloniki (Greece) Leaving Komotini we headed down to the Aegean coast on our way to Thessaloniki… …which was calm and beautiful… …and rather inviting to ride down to the beach and pull up under an umbrella… …ummmmm, don’t even know what to say about this. The ladies saying hello to a local!!! Thessaloniki – busy and a bit crazy……but with beer!Luckily we didn’t need to double check our receipt!! We undertook a bit of planning on the best roads in Northern Greece. Day 36 – 1 Oct 2017 – Thessaloniki to Kipoi (Greece) No problem, just asking the Police to look out for Amand and give him an update when he finally turns up after missing a motorway turn-off and having a bit of a detour! The mountains start to rise up on front of us… …as we head off into another playground… …a beautiful playground with tiny villages tucked away in the hills and forests… …as we celebrated… ,…and cruised our way up and down and roundabout. It really felt like we were out in the wilderness now… …but whenever we found a little bit of civilisation it had a feel of history… …culture… …and beauty. People still wondered what the hell we were up to! Steve looking like he’s missed the next turn-off! The steepness of the road gave us some fantastic outlooks… …and the ancient Greek civilisation touched us everywhere we looked. We continued to look for interesting opportunities by getting off the main roads, this one turned into a dead end… …but we didn’t let it stop us from smiling… …the amazing evening light gave us a special moment, found only due to the dead end we’d just turned around from… …the way things turn out continually amazed us, but only if you kept yourself open to the opportunities. Sam had headed down a different dirt road that didn’t find a dead end and was waiting in Kipoi… …where he was served tea and cake, how very civilised!! While Steve and Amand were finding a continuing repetition of amazing vistas… …and in the evening light it was just spectacular… …and another moment just to soak it all in.
