Day 43-44 – Croatia, Slovenia, Austria Day 43 – 8 Oct 2017 – Split to Sveti Juraj (Croatia) We blatted up the highway where Sam left us to head straight home… …while we headed back to the coast at Zadar, a beautiful ancient seaside town… …before leaving the main roads and heading for the island of Pag… …where it changed drastically to a crazy moonscape… …and men still made their living on the sea. Paški most (Bridge to the Moon – that’s our interpretation anyway!) Ruine Fortica – a ruined house on the moon Farming on this rocky moon must be some kind of challenge… …but at least there’s a chance to make some straight rock walls! Excited to be heading up Pag towards Žigljen and the ferry back to the mainland… …waiting for the ferry the sky became all kinds of funky… ….just to match the landscape… …we’d raced across the island back to Novalja to get some food for dinner and got back only just in time for the ferry… …farewell Pag and your unique world… …and welcome back to the mainland, where we arrived at Prizna (we’d left Prizren the other day only to land in Prizna!!) We stopped just south of Sveti Juraj to watch a magnificent sunset over the islands… …and the world glowed just like we were after 43 days on the road… …where we set up camp amongst the rocks next to the Adriatic. Day 44 – 9 Oct 2017 – Sveti Juraj to Thal (Austria) Morning revealed just how rocky it was and we’d managed to squeeze our tents in the only piece of grassiness The coastline was no less beautiful in the morning light… …and the spot we’d had a fire last night was pretty special too for our last night on this trip. The sun rose onto the islands to greet the final day and brighten our mood… …as did a morning swim in the surprisingly warm sea. We headed up to Senj for some breakfast… …and to try and find some solution to my now incredibly noisy exhaust… …unfortunately Senj was a sleepy town where we would find no assistance. So we looked north along the coast towards……Crikvenica, and got pointed on to Rijeka… …would getting a boat be a better option?…or should we just stay here? No solution in Rijeka so we headed on through Slovenia and bypassed Ljubljana and back into Austria… …and up the Soboth, a fairly well known ride… …not that far from Thal and the finish line… …but just enough time for one final stunning sunset… …where the colours intensified… …to fire – like our passion to finish (and eventually do another grand adventure) Cheers Grit and Sprit – it’s been a blast!!
