Boys trips

This story began to grow legsĀ in Finland, of all places, nowhere near the (mostly) overland route we’re planning between Queenstown, NZ and Capetown, South Africa.

And like all good adventures, the plan was nutted out on the back of a beer coaster: a squiggly line through NZ, Oz, Southeast Asia, India, the Middle East and Africa. 30,000 kilometres on motorbikes. 250km per day equals four months’ riding time.

To give us enough of a window to prepare for a journey the likes of which none of us have ever done before (while at the same time just so far away as to make the whole trip seem slightly distant and therefore not so damn scary), we set a start date three years in the future.

The maths, and probably the beer, made it all look do-able, and so a pact was made: in late 2017 we will make this happen. And we’ve got Karhu the Finnish beer bear to thank for getting us off to a good start….and maybe a couple of whiskys as well!!
