“The Ideas Man”

Gidday, I’m Steve, originally from New Zealand, currently living in Germany with my wife and two wee ones. I’ve always had a thirst for adventure –  when I was a kid growing up on a dairy farm we didn’t travel much so I’d often “camp out” on a stretcher in the lounge and literally climb up the furniture and door frames to keep myself entertained. I read books by Jules Verne and Barry Crump, Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Three Inverstigators”, and tales of Sir Ed Hillary’s mountain climbs.

Later in life my love for travel was distilled into my adventure travel business, Aspiring Adventures, where we take guests to out-there places in Peru, Vanuatu, the Galapagos Islands and more. One must practice what they preach and on my personal adventures I’ve explored 52 countries (and counting!), hiking, biking, hitch-hiking, paragliding, scuba diving, getting lost, losing passports, running out of money, busking… doing whatever it takes to really get to know a place and its people.

Grit and Sprit for me is ultimately an extension of a life I’m already lucky enough to lead. It’s a chance to share my adventures with you, the good, the bad, the stupid, funny and serendipitous things that happen along the way. Thank you for visiting our site, I hope you enjoy our stories, reviews, anecdotes and philosophising. Who knows what’s around the next corner – let’s find out!

Have fun out there,

Steve
